Michal Negrin: A Great Lady of Israeli Design

Michal Negrin is an internationally recognized Israeli designer and artist whose work is instantly recognizable for its romantic, neo-Victorian spirit. Her collections invite you into a dreamlike world where vintage charm, femininity, and meticulous craftsmanship come together in jewelry, fashion, and home decor. Over several decades, she has built a lifestyle brand rooted in imagination, emotion, and personal expression rather than passing trends.

Building a personal world through design

The signature style of Michal Negrin blends old-world elegance with a modern sensibility. Her designs are known for rich color palettes, lace inlays, ornate metalwork, and the frequent use of Swarovski crystals. Every piece is handmade, with a strong focus on detail and artisanal quality.

Rather than following fashion cycles, Negrin relies on intuition and personal taste. She often describes her work as an effort to create the world she wants to live in, one filled with beauty, optimism, and romance.

Jewelry, fashion, and home collections

Michal Negrin began her career with jewelry, which remains the heart of the brand. Over time, her creative universe expanded into fashion and interior design, all unified by the same visual language.

  • Jewelry: Handmade rings, bracelets, watches, necklaces, and earrings, with metallic elements, crystals, and vintage-inspired motifs. Notable collections include the Monarchy and Heritage lines, as well as gold-plated fashion jewelry.
  • Fashion: Dresses, scarves, and garments designed with the same romantic detailing and expressive colors found in her jewelry.
  • Home decor: Curtains, bedding, runners, rugs, and decorative kitchen accessories that bring the brand’s aesthetic into living spaces, including items such as the Bonita designed curtain and Sofia Runner designed.

Biography and early creative roots

Michal Negrin was born in 1956 in Kibbutz Na’an, Israel. Her father, Yisrael Grün, was a master carpenter and the nephew of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion. Her mother worked as the kibbutz cook and was also a bohemian choreographer, exposing Negrin early on to both discipline and artistic freedom.

After losing her father when she was nine, she turned to art as an emotional outlet. She painted miniature scenes on the backs of old watches and embroidered standard kibbutz uniforms, quietly reshaping a modest environment into something more expressive. She did not complete formal matriculation exams, choosing instead to follow her creative instincts.

From local market to global brand

Following her army service, Negrin moved to Tel Aviv. In 1988, she and her husband, Meir Negrin, launched her first jewelry collection at the Nahalat Binyamin open-air artists’ market using a small loan of NIS 1,000. What began as a personal project quickly gained attention.

The brand grew from a single shop in Tel Aviv’s Sheinkin district into an international chain with over 60 stores worldwide. Today, her studio in Bat Yam functions not only as a creative workspace but also as a visitors’ center and gallery, highlighting the brand’s strong focus on craftsmanship.

Design philosophy and creative values

In interviews over the years, Michal Negrin has consistently emphasized a set of core principles that define her work:

  • She designs for herself first, creating pieces she wants to wear and cannot find elsewhere
  • Her work is about living a fantasy, offering an emotional refuge from a fast-paced and often impersonal world.
  • She trusts inner intuition over trends, allowing personality and strength to guide each collection.
  • Empowering women is central to her vision, with accessories meant to highlight individuality and femininity.
  • The brand is a family endeavor, with her husband serving as company president and her daughter Jasmin previously leading her own fashion label within the company.

As of 2026, Michal Negrin remains active and creatively involved in her brand. New jewelry collections such as Monarchy and Heritage continue to evolve her signature style, alongside carefully designed home decor pieces. Her work still reflects the same core ideas that shaped her early creations: craftsmanship, imagination, and the courage to build a personal world through design.

For admirers of vintage-inspired jewelry and romantic design, Michal Negrin remains a distinctive and enduring presence in the international fashion landscape.
