Countries Standing with Israel Today

As Israelis and Jews all over the world face scary and difficult times, it’s always reassuring to have friends and supporters. Take a break from the negative news cycle with a few of our favorite inspiring examples of countries and governments around the globe expressing their solidarity with Israel!

United States: President Joe Biden has strongly condemned Hamas and expressed solidarity with Israel and the Israeli people, in addition to sending much-needed military aid and becoming the first US President to visit Israel during wartime. His expression of “Don’t!”, aimed at anyone wishing to attack Israel, has become famous among and highly appreciated by Israelis.

Lithuania: In addition to expressions of support from the Lithuanian government, the Town Hall of Vilnius was lit up to display the Israeli flag, along with 1,400 candles in memory of the 1,400 fallen in the Hamas massacre in southern Israel.

United Kingdom: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has spoken out emphatically in support of Israel and visited the country shortly after the breakout of war. Other leaders, including King Charles III, have expressed their solidarity with the Israeli people as well.

Italy: The famous Arch of Titus in Rome was lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag, along with citizens rallying in support; for many Israelis and Jews around the world, the Arch represents the Roman destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple, so having it lit up the Star of David and Israeli flag was a deeply symbolic and poignant move. Officials in the Italian government have also strongly backed Israel.

Germany: Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Israel to show his support, and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin was lit up with the Israeli flag.

Spain: Citizens rallied in Barcelona to condemn Hamas and terrorism, express solidarity with Israel, and light candles in memory of the victims.

France: President Emmanuel Macron expressed strong support for Israel, and has been trying to set up an international coalition to help battle Hamas. Additionally, the Eiffel Tower in Paris was lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag, and crowds gathered to show their support for Israel. (Below photos by: Mordehai Lubecki)

Canada: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has condemned the Hamas attacks. A rally was held in Vancouver in support of Israel and demanding the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Bulgaria: Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov expressed solidarity with Israel, and the National Assembly building was lit up to display the Israeli flag.

Additionally, Israel also received particularly strong statements of support from the governments and leaders of Uruguay, the Philippines, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, and Ukraine, expressing their commitment to Israel’s security and right to self-defense, while condemning the horrible acts of violence against the Israeli people.

Other examples of international solidarity include condemnations of Hamas and statements of support for Israel from Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Iceland, Ireland, Kosovo, Latvia, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Servia, Slovakia, Sweden, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Cameroon, Zambia, Australia, Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, and Palau.

It should also be noted that Quatar, despite not having formal relations with or publicly backing Israel, has been working around the clock to try to secure the release of Israelis and other foreign nationals captured by Hamas.

Even in light of the growing antisemitism around the world, we appreciate the people and leaders who are taking a stand against terrorism and showing their support for Israel!

In response to the devastating massacre of October 7, 2023, we’ve compiled a list of recommended organizations to donate to in order to directly help Israel and the war effort – learn more here.

And show off your solidarity with Israel with our Support Israel collection! Every purchase helps support the Israeli artists who lovingly bring you their designs, and we are additionally donating a portion of proceeds to Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance and medical rescue service.
